This is out-of-season fruit. Hi, and welcome!

I’m Madi, a late twenty-something grad student writing, eating, and daydreaming out of London (where I moved from Brooklyn last September).

Since January 2023, out-of-season fruit has been my creative corner of the internet to muse on and get personal about the intersection of food and feelings. Outside of Substack, my words can be found in the New York Times' Metropolitan Diaries, Defenestration Mag, and Flora & Fauna Mag. In between studying for my Master’s, complaining about the bagel situation over here, and looking longingly out of the front windows of every double-decker bus I ride (a good consolation), I’m currently at work on my first novel.

Subscribe for bi-weekly-ish love letters from me in your inbox. What to expect:

Two-ish emails from me monthly; one misc. post—a recipe, personal essay, restaurant guide, list, poem—and a comprehensive end-of-month roundup of all I’ve been cooking, eating, and getting inspired by.

This is a free newsletter for all—but if you have the means and are looking to support an early-career writer like me, perhaps you’d consider upgrading to paid for $5 per month?

You can find a full archive of all my past posts here. Thanks for reading!
